Euroblat cars.....

Postby Olilocost » Sat May 31, 2014 7:12 am

Hi all,

Very tempted to do the Euroblat next year. But.....

I have a bec has anyone completed it with one and was it ok?

Not the best on longer journeys

none of the cars on euroblat were bec, but for sure there's a posse who have done mega trips; Adi from locostbuilders is off shortly to the dolomites for a couple of weeks, Lee from here has been with Adi and others to the alps/pyrennes etc.......
guess depends what your reservation is?
if its reliability - then that's no different to a cec is it? a shoddily prepared cec isnt ness going to be reliable
if its noise - that's a helmet and noise plug job?
if its useability - well these trips are rarely stop/start affairs so perfect i'd have thought for a bec?

A couple of us discussed this very topic while on tour. The fact there were no BECs. I don't think we've ever had a BEC do a full tour as I recall? We have had them on Rallye runs to Europe in the past.

I guess the bottom line is how reliable your car is regardless of engine configuration? I don't think there is any reason a BEC couldn't do a tour as bikes tour all the time.

Build in reliability and come join the fun.

The cars running really well now. (Reaching for some wood)
Had some teathing issues but all gone now.

The bit that concerns me is the higher revving and comfort for 5 days or 6 ;-)

Very tempted though for next year.

SteveO did the UK trip which was 5 days... nicest sounding car IMO! Only difference I noticed is that he didn't have a reverse gear so needed a push every now and then!

Oli,
If thats your only concern then jump in. You can make it comfortable and use earplugs for the noise. The upsides FAR out way the downsides

You got there before me Phil. Steve's is a 1.3L megabusa, so that would make it a more "comfortable" bec as far as having to rev the nuts of it is concerned. His issue on the UK tour was having 888s in near flooding conditions. We hit a bit of traffic going through a town on one day, but I don't remember him saying that was a particular problem.

Can't remember if Kev (Furyous Kev) has done a longer trip in his bec, I know he did one of the French trips with the Tiger before he had that, but we haven't been on one of those since to remember if he went again. Maybe if he's around he can comment? In my experience, people with no reverse becs seem to have strategies for dealing with that, so I wouldn't have thought that's an issue. Oli, what's the longest trip/day out you've done so far? Maybe plan something to take you out all day, or even overnight "locally" and see how you get on?

Hi all,

Thanks so much for the replies!

The longest have done is a run out last month. So was an hour there and then good hour and bit driving maybe more. Then of course hour drive back with no problems.

So think worried no reason. Might do an overnight to Coast and back soon.

Don't think I got anything to be worried about

My personal thoughts on road trips were that I was going to do a UK one first as I felt that should anything go wrong then it'll be easier to get home. Also if you find your car really isn't suitable then you can go home without too much bother. The roads on our trip must've been the best that this country can offer and I don't think anyone would be disappointed.... the weather however is a different story but I packed for the worst and enjoyed learning to drive the car fast in wet conditions.
I did have a problem so with regards to my point about getting home easily I can't say the AA impressed me too much but ultimately I got home, how it would've been on the continent I don't know. I think I will do the UK road trip again next year too as it was brilliant.
