Started a different sump guard for the Locost as due to the sump guard bashing we have done on the Robin Hood over the runs I have done so far I am concerned the yellow Ali one I made will be too low on the Locost, the Ali sump sits at the same height as the bottom of the bell housing as did the beefed up sump I had on the pintos rather than a separated sump guard (due to the car being low ) and that used get caught now and then.
So the Ali guard one siting 25mm lower than the sump is likely to get whacked a lot and being only pop rivet Ali unlikely to take much pounding.
So I have cut some 16 gauge steel strips and drilled the ends to fit where the Ali one was intended to fit, in half strips across the bottom of the sump missing it by 10mm, these I will tack together on the car and put a few strips from front to back and a ramp at the front as always intended, then take it off and sheet it with 1.6 0r 2.0mm steel strips and flare it up at the back to the gearbox bell housing.
Planing to make a cut out to allow me to change the oil with it on.

Re: Locost ''Eleanor'' Rebuild
Work continued on the sump guard with some side strips, then using tape over the gaps marked then cut to size them transferred to some steel plate, marked and cut out then tack welded in place on the car one piece at a time to avoid any warping at this stage.
Next the back 4 to make before moving onto front and back ramped sections.
Doing it this way has so far meant far less guess work and getting up and down trial fitting and bending one sheet as I did before.

Re: Locost ''Eleanor'' Rebuild
Still on the new sump guard spent a bit more time cutting and tack welding sections as well as putting in the front fixings under the rad panel.
Looks a bit steampunk ish at present.
Still have to fab up the rear sections that will go close to but not attach to the lower bell housing.
Need to be very careful how I seam weld it to avoid thermal movement so will probably try to do the seam welding whilst it is fully bolted to car and also zig zagging across to reduce hot spots, then when done remove and do the top side in the same zig zag dashing and a good clean up and probably powder coat.
Still might end up being too low as can only have about 4 inch of ground clearance.

Looks good, I think I only have about 4inches ground clearance but that’s at the bell housing my sump is much higher
