Sorry to hear about this. On the blacktop that bit that's missing on the oil separator, ie part that sticks into block, is plastic I think.
Looks like best way forward is another engine and a coffee table project

Interesting but probably would of still damaged the engine, knowing my luck

What happened to the no 1 shell bearings? Looks like something spun on the con rod facing?

Yes they had spun but wether it was the cause of it or just from them being eaten away and then spinning I don’t know. I suspect they spun as they were being destroyed

Good afternoon, picked up the ST170 engine with Matt.
Took it back to matts and matt said we should try and start it before stripping it.
Cranked it over all moving ok.
Rigged a indicator light to oil pressure sensor and cranked it over using a bodged starter motor to get the oil pressure up. Looking good!
Out came Matt spare carbs, ECU, jump leads, string and sticky tape.
