Re: Man with spanners - thinks he's a mechanic
This weekend I replaced the bearings and oil seals in the supercharger and am working on making it road worthy. Have an ok idle and played with reving it and letting auto tune do its thing. Also fitted a pk6 fan belt which has helped with the squealing and it seems to be settling down. Hopefully will brave a run on the road!

Squealing still bad, beginning to suspect the supercharger front bearings aren't up to the task

Sounds like you've done the hard work. Good luck getting the final teething problems sorted.

I’ve bought another supercharger, which should be in good condition, but with the joys of eBay who knows! And I have a plan b to run without the SC. It’s still touch ‘n’ go but there’s always plan C to take the 20 year old mx5. Will probably have to cut a few way points to keep up but it’ll still means I get a trip.

Nah, it might be slower but with the MX5 you won't be having the breakdowns and 'tune-up stops' that everyone else will be having.

Looks like the new SC won't arrive until next Wednesday - Friday, given that doesn't leave much time to road test I'm going to drop the SC until after the Mega Tour™ is it worth me keeping the Charge Cooler and routing the air intake through it or are the gains not worth the weight penalty?

Not worth it. If running NA, the air shouldn't have heated up significantly to need cooling. Better to try to provide the engine with a source of cool air without all the plumbing gubbins associated with the charge cooler.
