Done the maths, it’ll be the third in the car. Bought 5 in total. Cost.. about £4 each.

How many miles per engine in the car, asking for a friend?

If it helps your friend sleep at night, 2000miles first engine, 3-4000 second engine, latest engine I’ll report back when it’s fucked. :D

Heads cleaned valves ground and reassembled. Dig the car out tomorrow and start stripping it.

I'm imagining you know assembling one of these like a marine does an M-16 blindfolded.

Hope you get it sorted soon and we see you out and about. Time for an East meets West. Perhaps when the adventurers get back from their respective trips.

You're doing better than me. Only ever built two engines, both lasted 1000 miles - gave up after that.

Thanks both. They are pretty straight forward David, 60 year old design, 30 year old parts.. Not sure what was wrong with the first engine, the oil pressure got lower and lower until pretty much zero. The second engine was my fault, ran it with low oil level and lost oil pressure under heavy braking, damage is done even just for a few seconds. Carried on using it, a little clattery, but head gaskets kept failing, probably a liner issue. Kept it going with Steal seal though not recommended with an electric water pump

Heads on engine, swmbo held on to it for her life and I gave it what for... 20nm then two 90 degree pulls on each stretch bolt. If this fucker blows. Plan b.. ;)

Workshop is full of old engines so moved into the kitchen. swmbo tidied it specially.. :P

Makes it easier to get to the parts washer, sometimes referred to as the dishwasher. ;)

Yep. she’s happy to scrub up the parts, just drip feed her some white lightning to keep her sweet. Once she’s finished cutting the lawn..
