actually Russ there's a raft of Baofeng products - i chose that model as after reading umpteen posts/threads it seemed to be the easiest to use.
Will find out shortly as ordered all the gear plus a decent aerial....
only thing i also need is a headset - have to wait til tomorrow to order as paypal playing games and i dont have any cards on me today....

Neil and i are hoping to trial this weekend. so if anyone fancies a rumble through Kent and east sussex......

Think this sort of things been on the cards for a while, I think you'd only need a mile or 2 range anyway as back markers could then radio ahead and get the right turning etc ;) and not get left behind

I like the idea but find in car tec a bit of a let down.
For the euro trip last year I had a front and rear gopro set up with in built charging, blue tooth and external mics. By the time of the Alps trip I'd resorted back to just pressing the record button.
If your system turns out to be 100% reliable I'd have one provided that there were enough other users to utilise it effectivly.
As for a run this weekend. Yes, so far i'm free.

I'm interested too. We used to use CB when I was rallying, it was always great fun driving in convoy. I'll never forget the look on one old lady's face when I overtook her over a bridge and round the outside of a left hander

I'm interested too, but just to clarify - we're talking about having the unit mounted somewhere, with a remote aerial, mic & earpiece & a press to transmit button yes?

I'll start thinking of mounting possibilities. With the CB the aerial was best mounted to metal, so that would mean the roll bar / cage. I guess these would be the same?

Hmmmm... areal mounted on metal, that could be a challenge!
