Thanks Mattjs and all. wasn't quite where I wanted to be before doing the chassis proper, so have been practising a bit more, latest efforts below. Some great compliments from Stu at Classic Workshop, who tells it how it is,.. so good to go on the 40mm box section parts of the chassis now,..welding the tube is a different ball game and is work in progress...
Same piece from different angles below.

That looks excellent, well done, why dont you grind the weld flat on a test piece and make sure theres no cracks/pitting in it - and then try to destruct it?

Re: Midlana Build
you should overlap your welds by 1/4 of an inch it will be a better weld stronger and tighter and it will stop water getting in .that water can't get out

Re: Midlana Build
mike thats excellent progress, much better than the pigeon poop method have you got a picture of the inside of the tube? whats the penetration like inside? i may be wrong but it looks a little on the cold side to me if i'm totally honest. as far as technique/ stability goes i think your good enough to crack on.

Thanks Ash, I'm thinking the same probably because I'm a little slow with the torch and am heating up the metal from the wire rather than the box. penetration is ok inside though overall The bluing isn't that even on the outside. I'm thinking maybe turn the welder up a notch and go a bit quicker and it'll be good to go.
