At Detling I was told that the crate Zetec engines that are on general sale don't have engine numbers but that they are perfectly legal.
Does anyone have a view on this and how the V5 and more importantly DVLA deals with it?

Re: Crate Zetec Engine Numbers
My X-flow has no "official" engine No. & I was told that a V5 could be issued with "none supplied" in the engine No. box. I sorted it out a different way in the end, so have no proof that this is the case. But I guess that with no engine No. they'll assume it's a new engine for emissions testing. So as it IS a new engine, surely you could just stamp a number on it?
Hint:- My engine has a number & it's on the V5, but it's not a number Ford would recognise.

Re: Crate Zetec Engine Numbers
My 'crate' Zetec didnt have an engine number and the DVLA man wasnt bothered, I registered with a new plate when I passed the SVA last year and my V5 doesnt record anything next to the engine number part.
Doubt it's changed under IVA as it's only the DVLA's concern, however I am subject to rigorous emmision testing.
You could always dremmel a number on the side of them

This is all your fault because I hadn't e en considered it until you mentioned it on the way to Detling the other week. So god bless you for that
