Re Tax'ing after Sorn ?

Postby Jasonmpk » Sun Apr 03, 2022 2:17 pm

Hi all, well having registered my car only last year and then put it on Sorn in November, I just tried to re-tax it but was refused on line due to it not having a current MOT. Aren't new cars exempt from MOT's for the first three years? of am I incorrect ?

Should be Jason.
Couple of ideas, did you by chance take it to an mot centre for a pre IVA check as if they registered it on the system might assume you now need a yearly mot.
Can you check the mot due date on line as well ?
Rich.

The status says no details held by the DVLA, I also asked on the locostbuilder site and someone there said it was a normal issue for our cars as the online setup can't do the tax straight after an IVA as the set up can't recognise new vehicles,so i need to visit a Post office to sort it over the counter hopefully.

I've done pre-IVA MOTs on my builds in the past and so always get the MOT at year 1....but FWIW, I have no issue with that. I'm a bloke in a shed with no professional qualification to be building cars so I see no problem having a pair of experienced eyes looking it over each year.

Out of interest, Cal from Retropower commented on one of his videos the other day that he does the same on their builds, for the same reasons, and he's a professional car builder.

Only ever had 1 MOT fail on the kits - a suspension bush on the Westfield when it was roughly 15 years old.

Wehay, all sorted, It took the Post Office lady about 30 seconds to sort it and I'm now legal again.
