Despite a late 1.30 start this afternoon I had hoped to get the new clutch kit fitted to the engine and the gearbox fitted before dark.
Things started well with only a small amount of adjustment with the clutch aligning tool to get it all cantered up.

Nice new borg and beck

Then on to the gearbox and remove the old release bearing and arm so I could give it a bit of a clean out and replace the release bearing.

A tad dirty

Light clean and copper slip

The fairies had been at play since I took it out as I noticed during the week that there were lifting lugs that once I fitted some chain and shackles proved to lift the gearbox square so a different plan of attack meaning less lifting for me.

So I managed to lift the box up into position with the crane through the bonnet,

Onto the box

that were the good news ends as have spent the past 2 hrs trying to get the surface lined up and get a bolt in. With a few different things tried I finally managed to get some bolts in but still not got bottom ones in as they are tight as I dare but a gap at the bottom, not sure if it is not binding on the dowels so had to cut my losses till a short one tomorrow, not sure what else to try despite pulling it completely off the input shaft at present.
Definitely present different challenges to a rear wheel drive.

Manoeuvring that heavy clutch/bell housing/gearbox unit into the clutch exactly is a nightmare. You've done very well today.

Hopefully, if you loosen all the bolts a little, and give it a good wiggle it might slide home. Much easier with two pairs of hands.

Good luck.

After a few more huffs and puffs this morning wrestling with it I decide I had to remove the box and recentre the clutch, this done it was still a bit of a fight but it went on and I have started to refit the ancillaries till now when forced to take a break, next milestone will be when I try to get the beam back in.

Second bite of the cherry after taking partner to work, so I managed to get the beam in and it and the engine mounts all tight, hopefully get the oil in the gearbox, air filter box etc fitted tomorrow then I will be waiting on some new clips for the undertray and outside nuts for the drive shaft that I thought I would treat the car to.

I can remember talking about the fun of doing ball joints and clutches on crv with someone not long ago.

So managed to put some antifreeze in engine as well as the correct oil In the gearbox, run the car up and with the old nuts on the outside of the driveshaft through the hubs as still waiting for them and on axle stands I stuck it in gear and glad to feel it bitting much lower down. With that sorted I was happy to refit the air box and battery tray and cover, clamp.
Managed to order the smaller type of panel clips for the undertray by mistake so need to sort that, but looking good so far.
