I've just done a small job for Colin and I've sold my Tig I've seen an add on youtube where I can weld aluminum with a blow lamp so I got some rods sent in and waiting for a job here it is I can't move it

I've seen those ads and wondered how successful it would be, I might be tempted to give it a go next time a project needs it. Can you post a link to the place you got them from please Tony?

Yea did a bit of this on my side panels as part of the rebuild Tony, not as easy as the sales man makes it look but still good enough.

I used this process to weld a boss for a fan switch to my thermostat housing. Was easy enough to do and the result was strong and had lasted the summer season ok...

Looks good but I don't believe it is welded, as whilst ali has a relatively low melting point ali oxide is quite high, so it's probably more like brazing, i.e. melting an additional material into the join to stick them together. No reason why it wouldn't work to hold two pieces of ali together but I wouldn't want to use on something structural or a petrol tank.

That's exactly what it is Chris. Seems to be strong enough though but then I wouldn't use them to build a petrol tank from scratch either.

As a welder I will have a tendensy to think that's right also in my past I have used some adesivifs to part the 2 parts I distroid the job so can't discount any thing.i did a experiment I hamerd the job flat as I would with a weld and then bent it I'll let you decide
