Of course the only way is to try it - I'm near Hosham if that helps.
I made my own grit blast cabinet with simple base and side frames made out of wood. I then covered it in old sheets and put a sheet under the base with a hopper hole to let grit fall into a bucket. Used a piece of polycarbonate as a window and roof / back is again cloth. then used an old shirt as arm holes to hold work and gun. I place it on my workmate or tressels to give me height..
It works pretty well considering bought ones are a good few hundred pounds.
I think I would suggest sand blasting those seat ends even though it will take a time.

Any chance of some pics of your cabinet, those bench ends will not go in my table top unit but as I have the kit maybe a simple home made one with a few hrs spent on it will make the cleaning of those a lot easier.

impressive, did you have to have any dust extraction or lighting?

Dust extraxtion? Eh? It's not exactly air tight but it works.
Lighting. Yes, you do need quite a lot of light but using it outside in the sun helps and sometimes I put in a light but generally you can see if you wipe the polycarbonate screen.
