Assembling LED Headlights

Postby Alex. » Thu Jan 23, 2020 8:49 pm

Hi Guys,

I'm mid front end upgrade, brakes are done and now onto the lights.
The headlights are to be some 5 3/4" LED headlights from Tiger (same as the Furore lights), along with new bowls, again from Tiger. Herein lies the problem, I can't figure out how to mount the lights in the bowls...

There are clips that seem to fit into the outer ring, but I can't get them in place while the light itself is also in the ring!

I need help! Can anyone give me a hint on how to mount the lights into the ring?

Alex.

On my 7” headlights it’s just the outer ring that holds the headlight so if you don’t use the clips does it hold it tight anyway? Making the clips weee parts

Nope. The headlight is loose in the ring/bowl, so it needs some holding. But it is big enough that it will be a struggle to get three clips around it!

Check that the unit sits in the bezel properly. I enlarged the inner edge of the bezel so that the unit sat in it better then gave it a lick of satin black. The clips did go but require some persuasion.

The unit doesn't seem to sit comfortably in the bezel, so I'll have a look this afternoon to see if it can be better.

With the clips, do they go in from the rear and need a strong push to get the loops past the lip on the bezel?

Sounds about right Alex, get the unit sitting in the bezel, first clip is usually painless then the others needs a bit of persuasion.

Ditto what Mike said, they can be a git, I lost some of the clips so made some out of 16gauge gas welding wire.
and I also found the securing screws for the ring to the bowl can foul on a bit of the Led unit so have to use a shorter screw.

I've just been working with these and see what you mean about the unit sitting home in the bezel. The big hole in the bezel is about 2mm smaller that the shoulder on the light unit, which if the unit was fully home would give much more room for the clips!

What would be the best way of making the hole bigger?
I've been using a grinding stone in my dremel and it is taking ages! I don't have a straight burt and a hand file is even slower. I'd like to keep the hole round too...
I've had to stop to go pick up the missus and go to the cinema, but I am close to getting the first hole big enough....

Flap wheel in a grinder or drill.

Think I might actually have a flapwheel for the dremel! But tools are good, so I feel a stop at Homebase tomorrow is on the cards... :D
