More problems.
The diff was rebuilt a year ago due to failed bearings but it seams the fresh set were no better. I've just dropped the diff out the car and one of the output flanges has serious play and the oil is full of swarf. It's also pissing oil. So it's back to R&R for the third rebuild in 5k miles! :evil:

That doesn't sound right, with a car as light as yours, a Sierra diff should go for much longer. There have been reports of plated lsd breakages destroying diffs in Lotus Seven club.

That's why I am taking mine out this winter.

Got the diff back from R&R today, the bearing on one side was f**cked after less than 1000 miles. In fairness he did it FOC so fingers crossed it will last a bit longer this time!

at least its F.O.C. but still a complete ball ache removing, sorting out and refitting - hopefully thats the end of that problem!

That isn't good, they are nice taper roller bearings, so must have been a manufacturing fault or poor installation.

Good to hear he didn't charge though.

Yeah as Tony said FOC only goes partway to the ballache of those kind of issues. Good winter job done though
