Xflow to Zetec winter upgrade

Postby Rickyrjb » Sun Nov 03, 2019 6:59 pm

And so it begins those long winter nights in the workshop.

I am currently running a 1990 Westfield SEi Wide 1600 xflow, which has been very reliable and still is to this day, however the quest for more power is has lead me to where i am now.

So I have purchased a donor vehicle (Eagle P25) which has a 2.0 Zetec and Type 9 5 Speed box fitted, the plan being to swap over the engine, ECU and box to the Westfield, then sell on the Eagle in the spring to hopefully recover a chunk of my costs. Based on most of the changes have already been made to the Zetec so it can just POP it in..

Little history on the engine, it's been ported with standard valves, focus stage 2 cams cost him £550 he thinks the porting and spark plug conversion cost about £400 also new head gasket fitted before fitting.

It also came with an ERA alloy sump which has never been fitted and twin 45 webbers.

Todays Spannering revealed the following parts need replacing / repairing
1. Starter motor - terminals siezed and housing cracked
2. ditto alternator
3. Gearbox dust cover needed as currently does not have one, this probable explains when the clutch has siezed on.
4. The Webbers need a good clean and service
5. Exhaust manifold

The engine and box are now ready for removal so hopefully tomorrow I will crane her out.

Below are a few pics of todays efforts

So had a few spare hours tonight so full the engine out. Pretty straight forward really one you remove the gear stick DOH!

Hopefully tomorrow I can split the engine and box and take a look at the flywheel and clutch . Also need a dust cover plate so will try and track one of these down, or alternatively make one.

Anyone served their Webber carbs? From YouTube it’s looks pretty straight forward, just not sure on how to clean the bodies. Although Soda blasting seem to be the way to go. Will keep you posted

PS: is it just me of does the SKCC site time out very quickly so by the time you type a reply it makes you log back in again and then you has lost what you typed.. not irritating at all. So resorted to typing in word then cut and paste.
