So I’ve stripped it and it needs a lot of work :( it has knackered no1 big end and there is metal filings everywhere also damaging the cams. It could be rebuilt but I think it will be quicker to chuck another in it for now (st170’s seem cheap at the moment) and then rebuild the other one at a later time. I’ll let Kev post up the pics

just catching up on the forum, id heard you had a problem last Sunday and this is bad news, i guess the good news is that there seems to be plenty of ST170s about at the moment on the Bay for just a couple of hundred quid so really not worth rebuilding that one - like Rich, wonder what caused it?

hopefully you'll be sorted soon, i have a couple more possible Sunday outings before mine comes out for a gearbox rebuild!

From the earlier post it looks like it swallowed part of the breather

We think it could be caused by the breather breaking up and getting smashed up inside then bits getting pulled through the oil system as it’s never lost oil pressure while out on a run.
Going to pick up another engine tomorrow afternoon so the car should be back out again soon

On a good note keV engine removal helped him get me some vital measurement which saves me some work, so every cloud :D

No problem Rich
If you want standard measurements I’ll be able to supply them as well

Yeah shouldn’t take to long
Did think about getting a black top but not a lot of 2 litres about, a few 1.8’s but st are cheap at the moment, not sure if that’s a good thing though. We will see.
Good luck with gearbox
