Rear or top entry !

Postby locost220 » Fri May 03, 2019 8:10 pm

So for those of you that have experienced both should I take the opertunity to change my rear panel mounted fuel cap to a top mounted on.
As many have known the rear ones can take some time to fill and upset the Q behind me at the petrol station .
Now would be the time.

Personal choice Rich but given how much "stuff" you load the car up with accessing a top filler may take longer than the fill time from the rear?

It's annoying enough when the pump doesn't cut off and fuel goes down the back of my car. It would be a huge pain if it got amongst your luggage or tools, so I would go for a rear filler.

When I put the bag carrier on the Westfield you have to move the luggage to get to the top filler. I do not find it a big problem to part unload provided you have one bag to move. :D

To take Duncan’s concerns and mitigate them you could have a spill ring round the filler with a drain pipe. :) just a thought.

Mine is a rear entry fill Rich, yes it does take longer but I’ve found at a certain angle it feels up quick enough. To all the people who are waiting “sod them they will just have to wait”

I have to go slow with my top mount as the pipe corkscrews down to the tank to miss the integral boot box. Still prefer it to rear.

if your tank is low Rich, can you just raise the filler in the rear higher? normally its the angle that makes the rear panel fillers slow isn't it?
My top filler is perfect - straight pipe down into the tank. Was one of the 1st mods i did on the old car as it peed me off taking ages to get a measely 5 galls into the old tank.

Anyway, question is....how often do you fill the car up, how much does it annoy you, how often do you have stuff on the rear deck?
a tour is 2 fill ups a day for a week - vs the rest of the year....
