Fuel tank

Postby Matth93 » Fri Apr 12, 2019 7:48 pm

What size tanks are people running?
My Mk has about a 5 gallon tank which I can just about get 100miles out of ( if I'm lucky) so I'm thinking of fitting a bigger one so I'm not pushing my luck on roadtrips etc. As a few times I've had to resort to the back up can that I carry just in case which I'd rather not have to have floating around inside the car

34 litres. About 220+ miles to dry, but that is with fuel injection.

22 litre 115 miles of careful driving, i use a 22 litre tank that I bolt in for road trips and then remotely transfer fuel from it to my normal tank so I did not have to replace the sender into a new tank or fight to get a big tank in past my rear roll bar stays

Mine comes in at 50 litres and When I had the zetec I could get around 400 miles on a tank if I ran it in eco mode map. Not sure what range I get now but it seems to empty very quickly

Ok thanks for the replies, I am now thinking maybe I need to check my carbs etc as everyone seems to be getting better mpg than me. I know a lot of you are in injection which will do better but surely I shouldn’t be that far out. I’ll have a check and little tweak and see if it makes much difference before spending out on a tank

fwiw Matt, as a rough rule for mine. I reckon 25mpg'ish if on back roads going up to about 30 on a steady run. But the gearing on mine is such that i tend to be able to get away with just using 4th or 5th.
