Has to be ignition related if it is only 1&3. I'd wager it was a loose wire/pin in the connector to the coil pack.

I had the situation once that the car would stop after running for 20mins, leave it a min and it would restart, rinse and repeat. Turned out it was the crank sensor lead overheating, new lead no more issues.

You'd lose your shirt if you did :D

Found the problem:-

That's the throttle position sensor & those separated wires were in a "boot" of self amalgamating tape so should've been well supported. My suspicions were alerted when I plugged in the laptop, opened Omex's software & it said "Throttle 100%".

So the poor engine was getting large quantities of fuel squirted at it but the butterflies were closed. No wonder it was sooting the plugs & smoking. The wiring must've been just hanging on until I moved the wires to run the vacuum pipes & that was enough to dislodge it.

All mended now - I think, no test drive yet.

Well done on finding it. Simple fix and you can be out playing again.
