My winter project

Postby Matth93 » Sat Dec 22, 2018 4:54 pm

Today I have started on the Mini which I was going to do last year but never got round to it.
It needs:

The engine sorting as it struggles to get oil pressure up initially when starting.
Various front panels replacing/repairing.

So this morning I removed the engine and gearbox and pressure washed under the bonnet. I’ve taken the head off the engine and now need to get the flywheel off so I can split the engine and gearbox, to do this i needed a puller which I have now borrowed one so may have a go at that later tonight.
Then stripped all the lights and bits off the front and started cutting off the front panel. It also needs one wing replacing.
I then took the screen out to look at the scuttle panel which was scabby I’ve ground the rough bit off and found someone had previously bodged it so I’m going to cut the hole out neater and weld in a plate rather than replace the whole panel as that will be a pain to do.

I would like to crack on a bit more with it over the break but I can’t do much more on the bodywork till I get some new panels. The flywheel is now off so I could carry on stripping the engine and gearbox, cleaning that all up and working out a big shopping list

Quick progress as always :)

I'm interested in how this is done as I have never worked on a Mini. Keep the photos coming!

Hi Matt

A series engines suffer with sticking oil relief valves problems, just like crossflows, so that may be the problem, oh and ive had 14 minis. and 3 Mg Midgets !!

steve
Thats was probably spelt wrong, or had some grammer, that the "grammer police have to have a moan at
