Back of bonnet need trimming in the middle before trimming the front.

Second headlamp getting there.

This evening work was to firstly trim the rear of the spare bonnet, which not only made it fit better but also get rid of a few cracks that would other wise needed sorting, then measure twice and cut once as I start to trim the front edge .

The the outer front grill is a bit of a mess, but being that it was a pain to make the first time around (actually this is version no 3) I really want to save it as lines up with holes in nosecone.
So I had to break out a few tools and attachments and be carefully not to maim it.
Looks better but needs some more on the inside edges.

Cheeky git, its like the aftermath of a sandstorm in there, Trying to keep on top of it, but I need my own extraction system installed.
My poor old compressor does not know what century it is, has never worked so hard , wait till we have to tackle the spraying.

Got to admire your patience Rich. I got a new front grill from Westfield. It’s only been on the car for 3 club outings and already it looks sh*t. The paint or what ever they used is already flaking off en mass.

So it looks like I’ll be having a similar fun weekend at some point removing what’s left. What are you going to cover yours with that’s hard wearing? My Mrs suggested spray paint that is for stoves as apparently it’s rock hard when dry. Not sure I’ll do it but got me thinking.

This was originally bare 'weld mesh'. The sort of mesh used on fences with 1/8 mild steel welding wire shaped and welded round the outside and 4 mm screws welded to the backside.
It had lashings of primer and satin black spray paint and to be honest after 10 years of crud and salty roads it last quite well considering.
Stove enamel paint that your suggesting would certainly be worth a go.
As far as mine is concerned repainting the same with plenty of filler primer to mask the pitting is definitely one suggestion as well as a present secret sub project I have going on ?

I used Rustoleum spray on mine (the mesh and the inner GRP surround). Comes out the nozzle in bigger droplets than say Hammerite. First application lasted well for 6 years and just re done it. Mines a fine mesh so didn't want to try brushing.

More work on the front of the bonnet, quick splat of filler and even quicker sand has the shut line looking better.
More than a little work on the grill has it looking ok ish.

Time to start on the rear panel including trying to remove the club and tour stickers incase I cannot get a full set.
