Thanks for the comments one and all.
Today got onto the list of things to do that were not necessary mot reliant.
So started to sort out the fuel sender that seems to intermittently stick on a 1/4 rather than the lesser true value, took the sender out the tank and confirmed it was that rather than the gauge, took the rheostat apart and cleaned the contacts to no avail, although the sender is sweeping the contacts it still sticking as far as sending signal to the gauge.

Carried on making a vinyl cover for the exposed boot box to hold my bits in place till I can afford a proper cover.

Fitted the rear undertray sections that I left off for the mot so they could have a good look around for me.

Quickly cleaned the light rust off the sump guard and powder coated it, hope to fit that tomorrow evening

Unseized the sticking choke valve on one of the carbs and ordered a choke cable that will make cold starts easier hopefully.

Managed to get a replacement fuel sensor from kit car direct the parts supplier linked to GBS/Robin hood that is an original Sierra one, obviously they must use the tank fittings for some kits, put that in and hopefully that the end of that.

Put the rear/boot box back in that sits above it and put on the diy vinyl cover that I have completed.
Bit rough and ready but hopefully will do the job of stopping my gear escape for now.
I can see the roll cage section outside the drivers side panel being a high traffic area so I have applied some rather basic clear vinyl wrap over the two straight sections to see if it takes the brunt of scraping and keys dragging.
