Having taken the sad task of rearranging the RR session and the GEO set up for later in February as it’s the right thing to do, been looking for stuff to move on with now rather than have loads left to do once we are released.
Have dug out the support frame for the long range tank that sits above the normal tank for roadtrips as I figure that although I should get better mpg with the ST engine and TB fitted she is still a heavy old girl and will still not be a good as some so the tank will get used.
The support frame also used to hold the boot box when not touring but those were only plastic and now beyond use, so the intention is to make a boot box the same size and fixings as the long range tank to use the rest of the time.
So after a while looking at the powder coated frame and additional labelled brackets I finally remembered how it went in and had to remove a few things to get it in and secured to the chassis in 8 places.
Not sure if the boot box will be steel, Ali or maybe fibreglass.
Once that was in I finished replacing the black metal hex screws that hold on the front arches and the rear arch stone guards that have already started to rust from the small amount of drizzle the car sat in once with stainless steel ones, then fitted a few of the IVA type bolt covers on the roll cage fixings with a dab of super glue.

Shame you had to reschedule, but well done for getting some less exciting jobs done. I'm looking forward to seeing you on a Sunday run, hopefully soon!

Re: Locost ''Eleanor'' Rebuild
Due to expectant bad weather I decided to post pone the clutch change on the tin top and hide in the garage this afternoon and start on the boot box.
Dragged out the long range tank for a quick measure up and then some scrap Ali, few bits of measuring, cutting and bending with home made bender.
With a few holes drilled and a few trail fits it came together and with some brackets made to bolt it to the support and some screws into the rear bulkhead.
Might replace the nuts and screws holding the box together with rivets so I can coat the inside in vinyl to make it quieter with all my bits bouncing around.

Looks a good sized boot, and very professional as always. I think you should have a 2021 resolution to resist filling her with spares and tools. There's always the AA or RAC

Re: Locost ''Eleanor'' Rebuild
Well could not get a pop rivet to hold the sides together properly so decided to turn the fixing the other way round as the vinyl would go over the pan head screw, then cut all the threads off the bottoms and once I tried a test fit incase there were any interference issues I had overlooked. Once that was confirmed it was into the other garage to drag out all the left over black vinyl from my DIY car cover attempts and out with the scissors and spray glue. Def not my best work even after using acetone to remove the overspray, but as it will be hidden most or the time it should do fine, once the glue has really stuck I will fit it in fully.

Re: Locost ''Eleanor'' Rebuild
With the clutch on the Honda completed and the remainder of the work required on it being running repairs I decided to tackle some other jobs on the Locost that I had intended to leave till after it was on the road, one of those is the rear undertray that I made and fitted only a year or so before I took the car off the road, being fed up of having to recoat the rear chassis and tank area every year.
Having been outside in the garden for a couple of years they are covered in light rust.
With the figment of the sump on the tank and the filter I knew the two piece tray would not go straight on
so decided to start on the easier pass side, firstly by cleaning out the fixing holes using some neat drill, tap and debut bits I got recently that is certainly quicker than using a standard tap.
I fitted it as much as I could to get a clear view of what needed to be cut out .
Once cut out time for a better trial fit.
Then started on a box to protect the sump.
Once I tweaked the tack welding was time to seam weld.
Need to look at re- routing the fuel supply pipe from the sump to the pump so I can do the same .

Waiting for parts to finish the mod to the rear undertray so decided to finish off the polishing of the spare bonnet to free up the booth for another project. I mention in the video the orbital sander that is clearly a polisher, hope it gives you an idea what can be achieved at home with a bit of elbow grease.

Re: Locost ''Eleanor'' Rebuild
Managed to rework the fuel supply pipe work route once the bits arrived, still to test it out though.
Over past few days managed to adapt the other half of the undertray and decide to make the cut out bigger around the petrol tank sump so there is a bit more wiggle room if it takes a whack before it contacts the sump, then went back and changed the first one to match.
Drilled some drain holes in these to allow any water thrown up from the wheels out.
The rust busters epoxy paint had protected the steel quite well Considering they had been laid out in the garden for a couple of years, but now was the time to grind it all off and powder coat both Half’s in fine text black, then last trial fit before they come off for a while as it makes adjusting the dampers harder which will be needed when it eventually goes for a geo set up
