Re: Rogue Runners UK ’19 is GO!
Well another nice warm day apart from light rain over the last 15 miles. This time I was the first to whimp out and put my half hood on. Dave, Matt and Tony made it to the (dry) hotel topless so respect to them.
Tony came up with a fantastic route, leaving Llangollen via Horseshoe Pass, and then along nice flowing roads into England. We met Matt at a really nice cafe in a tin hut, where Linda caught up.
Then some cracking roads taking in Holme Moss, Hebden bridge area and a road to Pately Bridge where I came up behind a Transit. I caught him, but the road was bumpy and at his pace, it woud have been crazy to try and overtake. As he pulled off at a turn, I noticed a small sticker "If in doubt, flat out".
The hotel in Brompton near Northallerton is perfect, secluded off road parking and the food was great. Room and breakfast only just over £50 a night. Well done Tony!
The next three days are loops to Whitby, Hawick or the Lake District. Weather looks ok for all three days, so our plan to decide using the forecast has failed. Discussions resume over breakfast.

Difficult decisions on the routes Duncan, enjoyed Whitby and the surrounding area in March, tempting just for the fish and chips. Swmbos home town, Hawick, great roads scenery and no traffic. A hard choice. Don’t forget some photos.

Sorry, my photos are all on my camera, and I just have a kindle tablet, so you'll have to wait for the photos unless Dave uploads more.

Re: Rogue Runners UK ’19 is GO!
A long day today, but very good.
Sunny all day
Soon after 8am we started heading west, nice Dales roads to Richmond to drive around the castle. Then over a fantastic moorland road that just went on and on, virtually no traffic until we came across a film crewe. They were filming Vera, and I'm sure I saw Brenda Blethin in her Landrover from the series.
Next was our annual ice cream and coffee stop at Brough. Situated on a farm, they have a ruined castle in the garden!
Then onto the lakes, we got separated for a while and enjoyed the roads and views. I was with Tony and Robert, and ahead of us Linda, Dave and Matt reached the national trust carpark at Ullswater (I think) first. T,R and I decided £5 for two hours was ridiculous and carried on. It was free for members though.
Tony and I had a completely clear run along Whinlatter pass. We got a bit carried away and lost Robert at this point. Seeing the eta back at base was 7.30 pm he wisely decided to cut some waypoints and head back.
The rest of us headed west and then south to the Wrynose pass through to Grasmere. There is a warning at the start that it is only suitable for light cars, is very steep and narrow. Pictures to follow, but it is a credit to cars and drivers that we all made it back to the hotel safely and with no mechanical issues
Robert, Tony and I were back soon after six, but the second group came in at about 7.20. They had completed more of the route than us, so respect where it is due!
Tomorrow, we have yet to decide whether to head North to Hawick or east to Whitby

It’s been a good day today. The wrynose pass was very rough, narrow and steep I think our average speed was about 10-15 mph Here’s a few pics to prove it did happen
