If we see a suitable garage we will stop and see what i can do. Sunday tomorrow so everything shut. Chris. I think the temp is stand alone and not monitored by the ecu. Not sure though.

There should be a second sensor on the inlet manifold that sends the signal to the ecu, this operates the cold start fueling and stepper valve on the plenum. Looks like the top of an injector type connector. Not sure how you’d access it though.

Is the liquid oil or water? How’s the water level in the header tank?

You beat me to it Kenton.

The stud looks quite a way in, given that the nut is just about on there.. it may have cracked through a water jacket. If its not causing much of an issue or water loss, leave as is, or remove it and shove some sealant on it. Merlin heads are known to be a bit porous especially the early castings.

Thanks Mike for the info.
Looks like ive an electrical gremlin. There was a +ve supply to the sendor which melted it. Ive also got dash lights illuminated with the ignition off. Ive pulled the wires from the gauge to isolate it. Fingers crossed

What ecu have you got? Might be worth finding out if will respond to high water temp? Or could you rig a gauge by plugging a phone (etc) into the ecu?

Just like a long Sunday run with better roads and scenery.
A good day again today. Up early to make the most of the roads. Trusting that my car would be ok without a temp guage we knocked off numerous passes. St bernard, furker, susten, nuffenen, st gothards to name a few. Fab day. Even stopped for numerous pics. Pizza and beer to end the day. Perfect
