hi all
just to keep you updated....

some routes have been plotted....some minor tweaking may yet be required !
hotels found.......negotiation on cost begins......should be under £50 pppn b&b single ensuite
we may need to book as soon as the best deal has been sorted,
so if the "possibles" can be "definites" that would help as i am sure deposits will be reqd.

also , in keeping with skcc tradition, a road trip sticker would be in order
so if someone (linda ? ) cares to come up with thoughts / design
that would be marvelous.....

1/ Duncan (definite) single room if possible
2/ Graham (definite )single room if poss.(cos i snore oh so loud)
3/ Roger ( elise interloper , definite )
4/ Jon (jtomo) (possible)
5/ Martin (scrooge) (definite)
6/ Stevo (definite)
7/ Phil (possible)
8/ Linda (definite) single room as I'm flying solo (Paul's on the Official trip

Right, a sensible question which I am fully braced for dumbass answers so here we go...

Not had the pleasure of going on one of these trips so far, and don't want to leave it until the last minute but do we have ideas on what I would need to bring.. apart from toothbrush, spare pants and any other smarty pant answers.

One concern I have is the weather and driving a car without a windscreen or a roof, do I just deal with it and get wet or what? What do others use for covering them up at night?

I suppose I am after tips from those with experience off these road trips...

cheers

We always have sun on these trips...

Bring spare parts and tools! And some weatherproof clothes. Just in case...

Unfortunately Jon (jtomo) can't commit to the dates at the moment :(

I'm going to find out the deposits required and then contact everyone.

Phil, most people without screens/weather gear have large covers like Graham said.
Wrapping your luggage in plastic bags so at least you have dry clothes to change into is a good idea.

On the John O Groats trip the weather was appalling, but invenive use of the heaters in the room seemed to get everything dryish ready for the next day :)
All in one waterproofs are good as plastic seats become buckets of water

As far as tools are concerned, we will all share when necessary. This year, I leant/gave away oil, penknife, cable ties and self amalgamating tape :)

I'd add spare clutch and throttle cable to that list - how many times have those (particularly clutch) gone on road trips  I seem to remember Richard sticking out of the footwell of Paul's car this year on a mission to rectify a snapped on one Day 1. And as for how many our Captain's been through .....

If you're going near Wales (and we are), the spare can thing is also a serious point. You can go a long way in the more rural areas of Wales without seeing a petrol station or, if you do, finding it's a museum piece rusting away nicely, and has been derelict for years. Oh, and they have a habit of closing early for an early bath. If you've got a smaller tank and/or you have moments when the descent of the right foot exponentially increases the consumption of fuel - take one.

On the bin bag/waterproof your clothing front, I did do that when we went to the Alps. It wasn't 100%, although to be fair we did stop overnight at Spa, the world capital of thunderous downpours. I got some of these, which I've used since with absolutely no leakage whatsoever

And, yes, I got turquoise, orange and navy ones to match my car
