IVA Questions

Hi,
I am starting to think about getting my car ready for IVA and have a couple of questions that I am hoping one of you can answer for me.
My car is a classic Mini derivative which uses the subframes, engine, gearbox, suspension and various other parts from the Mini which are attached to a new fibreglass bodyshell. Would that fall under the 'basic' or 'normal' IVA test?
I have also been told by someone that this kit may struggle with the IVA because of the straight lines of the body. What are peoples thoughts?
Thanks in advance?

sorry not a clue from me, but may be worth asking a manufacturer who is used to putting kits thru the test? i'd imagine that MEV might have some insight.....

Can't help with the "basic" or "normal" - but I suspect it'll be the normal.

The straight edges themselves aren't a problem, it the radius that's the thing. I THINK the figure is 2.5mm rad, so if that's right any GRP corner should be fine. Where there are actual edges (under the front bumper), there's a load of trim available, but it's only a problem if it can be touched by a "ball-on-a-stick" of a certain radius. The bolts under the bumper (holding the shell on?) & those on the suspension arms below will need plastic covers. The bonnet catches might fail (CBS do something similar that will pass.

All the details are in the IVA manual.

I would suggest a good read of the IVA manual and maybe even replicate the tools to check compliance yourself (some pics here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... nstruction).

I would check your light positions too. You will need some side repeaters visible from the rear quarter.

Good luck with it - it's nice to see something a little different.

Thanks for all the replies.
Some useful info and it looks like I have lots of reading to do.

Feel free to post any other useful hints and tips you think of.

No, but if it doesn't get through the IVA, it may end up in a canal!!

Has it never been registered? or motd?

If it was my car ................

I would obtain a mini log book and drive it on that
As that is exactly what people did years ago with kit cars

hahahah Phil, you quite obviously never owned or drove a 1960's mini ?

They would suffer with water ingress into the distributor in mild fog, let alone proper water coming in the front, that would shut the car down, the best remedy is a rubber glove over the dizzy with all the 5 leads through the fingers and tie wrapped tight
