Replacign throttle cable HELP!

Postby AshleyO » Mon Aug 31, 2015 3:57 pm

OK

Throttle cable just broke! Right where the wire goes into the screw end

It is certainly not a standard Rover V8 3.9 fitting, so I can't call Rover

It has two sets of nuts to secure it by and screw ends that fit into cup and socket ball joints

Where on earth do I start to try and find a replacement for these

Been surfing the web today and no definitive answer

Thanks

Ashley

If you just need to replace the inner cable, bicycle brake or gear cables work, that's what I used last time mine broke! ;) Try Halfords.

You could try Speedy Cables if you need to get something made up I believe they make the cables up themselves

If you want to keep it as original then Speedy cables will have something. If it's broken right at the nipple then there's a problem with the run of the cable & it'll do it again. Try to make sure the cable does not flex within - say - 1/2" of the nipple.

If you want to replace with something else look up "jagwires" on Ebay, they make cables for bikes but the inner & outer are PTFE coated so they're smooooooooth & the outers come in a selection of "funky" colours. Bear (bare?) in mind that brake cables are thicker than gear cables. I have a double cable on mine so if one breaks I'm not stranded, though neither has yet.
