Spares to takes on long trips

Postby matbrit » Sat Apr 05, 2014 11:29 am

Hi all,

Wanted to pull upon the vast experience of kit car long distance driving on this forum. Planning a trip to see relatives in Cornwall later this year. Any suggestion on minimum spares/tools to take on the journey?

I was thinking

Coolant
Fuses (particularly as my tail lights and dash board blew in the dark whilst on the A3 the other day)
Gaffer
Various screw drivers
adjustable spanner
Cable ties

Anything more I should be thinking about apart from a good AA membership?

For the roadtrips I'd normally take the following;

1. Spanners
2. Socket Set
3. Car Jack
4. General tools
5. Nuts and Bolts
6. Rose joints
7. Electrical cable
8. Coat hanger wire (good for securing errant exhausts, etc)
9. Injection fuel pump
10. Coil pack
11. Tyre pump
12. Throttle cable
13. Tow Rope
14. Tyre Weld
15. Fan Belt
16. Clutch Cable
17. Selection of water hose and jubilee clips
18. Cable ties
19. Jump leads
20. Wheel brace
21. Gaffer tape
22. Self amalgamating tape

Is TC just very, very cautious ; or is his car --- how do say --- reliability challenged?

^what he said^

On long trips I also take some old clothes to change into if need be, jump leads, Ty-raps, self amalgamating tape, duct tape & a jack. I also have a zip-bag with some tools, allan keys, circuit tester, dumpy-short spanners (but I only take the 10, 13 & 17) with me.
