I Went to Wembury

Postby Fury1630 » Sun Jul 04, 2010 7:45 pm

No - WemBURY. It started as a plan to take the Fury to Land's End, but I'd made no plans & when an old school friend said she needed an "interesting" car to move the carnival queen around Wembury village (steady - she's 10) I decided this was the only chance I'd get this year.
So after a hearty lunch at work on Friday I set off for Dartmouth where I have in-laws. I thought the A30 would be quieter & more interesting than the A303, I wouldn't do it again, but the bit from Exeter to Dartmouth was as entertaining as ever, & the fury was running well :)

I took the in-laws who'd not seen the fury round the block, then headed off to sleep.

The next morning I headed off along the A379 round the coast (ish) to Wembury

I swapped the passenger seat for a wooden bench I'd made when the school decided they just HAD to have a king & queen, & sat waiting for the parade with their highnesses. After that I headed back to dartmouth by a more direct route (via Modbury) which was equally entertaining with next-to-no traffic on the road. Next morning (we're up to Sunday now)I headed across the ferry (£4.50 :o ) & due north.

I was heading for Dulverton & the start of the B3223, seventh on a list on the ten best driving roads, but before I got there the sat-nav set on "shortest route" delivered som "interesting" roads.

The B3223 did not dissapoint, it was BRILLIANT, twisting out of a river valley, over the moors

I was very pleased the "classic & sports car club" with thier XK120s & Aston Martins were going the other way - they weren't exactly pushing the performance boundries.

After that it was head for home along the A39 - A303 - M3. Apart from the speedo dying (again) the fury didn't miss a beat. What a wonderful weekend

It did for me - there was a Cobra behind me that while going up the steepest bit of the route at 3mph suddenly vanished in a cloud of steam - I'm not talking about a few wisps here :o .

Think it may have blown a hose off. I saw the car later so I think it was OK, but I didn't see the driver to find out what happened.
