FWIW Tony i use Lightroom too, controls are pretty straightforward and there are some 'auto' options. If i have a 'keeper' then for sure a few mins spent in Lightroom -and/or another similar prog makes a heck of a difference to my eyes. For the Mono pics i norm have a quick play in lightroom and export to part of the NIK Collection of tools....(they're free)...i find 'silverfxpro' in that collection very good for the final refinement.

Thanks Mark, couldn’t remember the name of the collection, a good package. I also use Luminance for HDR stuff, which is a freebie.
