Electrickary - whose clever out there?

Postby Tony B » Mon Jul 20, 2020 9:40 am

I think i now know what Mark feels like when he takes on projects way above his skill level now

right, beekeeping.....sometimes you have to warm the honey for vatious reasons and i have a warming cabinet but its simply not big enough - so this weekend i obtained a chest freezer and im planning to convert it to a chest warming cupboard!

Im planning to put a tubular heater in the freezer, a 300mm slimline heater is sold as a 28 watt heater. Im then wiring this upto a thermostatic switch like "this" STC-1000 unit from the bay.

The question for the techies - the switchable output from the thermostat will need a relay to power the heater - what rating relay do I need??

I googled Ohms law but its been far too long since i remembered how to use it!

Any cheap digs at electrical experience/history will be treated with the same pisstakery thaey were given

...according to the spec. the thermostat includes a 10A/240VAC rated relay, so should be plug-and-play. The heater is 28W so current is very low <<1A hence the internal relay is fine... make sure you add an in-line fuse....of the heater will be the fuse!.. don't forget the protective earthing.

What Colin said, I've done exactly the same for an insulated box that holds six demijohns of fermenting homemade wine. As for not remembering ohm's law, this explains so much
Tiger Cat E1 - 2008-2009
Tiger R6 - 2009-2014
Austin Healey Sprite - 2014-2018
