Lifes ironies, the gift that just keeps giving....

Postby greenwoo » Mon Mar 25, 2019 4:26 pm

Had an appointment in London for Mrs eyes today. Had to be there at 12.30, and as the trains are infrequent she persuaded me that we should get an earlier train, 'just in case' one was delayed/cancelled....

At the time when we'd normally have been waiting on the platform for the 'right' train to come we were already 2/3rds of the way to Denmark Hill.....perfect timing to take a call from the Hosp cancelling her Op.....perfect, just 'king perfect.

Joy of joys, an emotional/pissed off travel companion, a days work lost and southern r/ways are £45 better off.....where's that Bacardi?

I’m sorry to read that Mark, for Sue’s sake and for your own sanity, hopefully another appointment will come through quickly.

Very frustrating mate!
Hope Sue is OK, and that she is able to get a rescheduled appt quickly.

Sorry to hear that, I think your wife is sensible taking the early train though. When I was doing exams at Guys, I used to take a train two before the one I needed. I was glad I did the day someone jumped in front of it at one of the stations!

Good luck at the next appointment :)

Mark. Firstly glad you have an another appointment. Wishing your Mrs a speedy recovery during what must be a very frightening time for her.

I had my appointment cancelled on the morning of back surgery. I remember saying to my then wife “I wonder how much cancelled appointments cost”. As you say time off, travel etc etc. The NHS publishes figures they lose through missed and cancelled appointments. It would be interesting to hear the numbers the other way around! Not to mention the emotional energy in psyching yourself up for these things as both a patient and their loved ones.

And as Duncan says, so wise to get an early train. I used to get one 2 trains early every day when working and before that taking exams in London. And most days that decision was justified. Easy way to take some of the stress out of the situation too.

Good luck to you both with it all.

cheers Guys....
you're right Chris, the mental side of preparing for this type of thing takes its toll, and trying to stay healthy/bug free has its own challenges. Last thing she'd want is to pick up a cold/virus and not get the Op done....
last week kicked a cple of visitors into touch as they had colds/coughs....so now got 5 more days of 'cotton wool'.....
