Re: EDF Smart meter.
Not having one myself, been so annoyed by the constant correspondence in all forms from my energy supplier. Got low energy bulbs throughout, PC turned off at night, outside lights on movement sensors, and if fancy the luxury of toasting a slice of bread hang the expense. I'm also fairly convinced they are getting are getting some form of kickback for every one fitted.

For those that haven’t got one, hand held device gives a live consumption display, along with other options such as daily, weekly and monthly consumption. Free to install. Made a few adjustments around the house, down to 5p an hour.. daren’t turn the oven on, and the underfloor heatings been banned
Meter readings go every half hour to EDF by built in SIM card so hopefully no more surprises.

Re: EDF Smart meter.
I am with Tony C on this, fed up with being bombarded with phone call, oh we are in your area fitting meters, I even had a guy turn up saying he was her to fit the new meter that we had organised !! wtf. One phone call I had almost said that it was the law to have it fitted, when I asked him to explain again it went quite.
We are pretty good in this house turning stuff of etc £70 per month at the moment I'm happy paying.
And know big brother !!

Technology is great, but if the ads are to believed technology will make everything better, new lifestyle car with iPod dock will give you the ability to surf, parascend, etc. New mobile with unpronounceable name and four cameras makes you David Bailey. Now where is my tin hat

Live of grid, no smart access needed, simples, go back to the old days when you’d phone someone up or knock on there door and .... wait for it .... talk to each other

Embrace the future I say
I love it, I’ve got a smart meter, smart light bulbs nd switches and an Alexa secretly listening to all my conversations and probably a virus recording all my keystrokes - bring it on

Re: EDF Smart meter.
EDF installing one today. Had no choice really as all the competitive tarrifs now require it. I knew this was coming.
I'm convinced the ultimate goal of the smart meters is for 'load shedding'. Dynamic pricing will temporarily remove marginal users. This to help with the future capacity shortfall as fossil and nuclear fuel generation declines and consumption only increases, especially with electric cars.
