Building standards officer has been on holiday for the past two weeks so little progress until he visits the site. Hoping he’s back today otherwise we will plow on and expect backlash. Been doing other things, including working on the design for the new build to replace the shed. Final proposed layout sorted. Some exterior detailing to add then submit to planning.

Eventually got hold of the building officer.. too busy with sickness and holidays to observe the percolation test needed to sign the building warrant. “Do it yourself and take some shots and we’ll see”

Dug a hole, put some water in it, filled it in again. Sent the shots to the building officer, out of office bounced back.. gone on holiday. ffs.

Got hold of him yesterday. All good, signed off the building warrant, which means we can officially start the extension. Pretty much a year to the day since we submitted the planning application. Hey ho.

Totally agree Duncan, though not helped by underfunding high workload and small team. Very frustrating overall. Taken a year to sort planning for the lodge and gotta do it again now with the new build.

Better to ask for forgiveness than to seek permission. Feck em i say, if they fail to provide the service go on and build. Isn't there a huge outcry for new housing? This country is disappearing up it's own bum!!!

You would have thought so Duncan, we’ve been very realistic with the plans not overmassing or cramming. With the help of the architect I spent a week putting together a 22 page planning statement which covers all angles. Fingers crossed I didn’t miss anything.

Been pretty cold here over the last 10 days. We lost our water supply so decamped to a holiday let down the road. Run by a fellow camera club member, which was handy. Hitting -14C or so at times, so little done other than a day on burst pipes and mopping up. Got the man flu which isn’t helping. Managed to get a couple of key jobs done though. Got out with the camera and took mediocre shots of the local landscape. The old Yeti goes well in the conditions, winter tyres are worthwhile.. drags the trailer around untreated roads no bother.

Decamping to Mellerstain House over xmas, in the courtyard clock house, It’s quite the place, proper country pile.. Image below.
