David

I really like the look of this because other than the tyre situation the car wouldn't need any modifications. I have a spare set of wheels but both they and the set on the car are sporting brand new R1R's so I guess I need to burn some rubber and then join the one later in the year....

This might be a really stupid question but are the events really regional so if I joined the same club as you I wouldnt be able to do ones nearer to me in Kent? Or is the club membership you buy almost arbitory?

Hopefully I'll get some spare time and pop along to wave the SKCC banners!

Hi,

Would be good to see you there. From the event regs I see:

4. Eligibility:
a) Members of SCC, CSMA, Bournemouth & DCC, Southsea MC, Dolphin MC, Falcon MC, Oxford MC, Basingstoke MC, Sutton & Cheam MC, Farnborough District Motor Club, Goodwood Road Racing Club, BTRDA and members of clubs in the AEMC, ACSMC and ASEMC.
b) Registered contenders for the 2019 ACSMC AutoSolo Championship
c) The event is the second round of the 2019 FDMC Solo Challenge
All drivers must produce a valid club membership card
Becoming a member of SCC will be possible on the day by completing a Membership form and paying the relevant joining fee- see southerncarclub.com

So it does look quite 'regional'.

Looks like it then, fair enough I suppose otherwise us northern boys would be all over it.

I need to check with head office but perhaps we should have a breakfast run that ends up near by and then those of us that want to could swing over for a look see. Could start at Newlands Corner and do a loop?

Looks like gates are shut after competitors are in but I'm sure you could get in with a friendly word. 4 circuits with 3 runs of each apparently.

So, what happened then?

Saturday night car fuelled up and box packed with items expected to be useful, e.g. small bottle of oil, small tool kit, etc.

Then, Sunday morning very easy journey up the M3 to Sunbury, turn right and you're there. Got there for 08:00 on the dot. Gates already open and quite a few cars already in the 'paddock'.

Then off to the event 'office' (bar under the grandstand) to sign-on. Here you have to show your MOT certificate, along with evidece of insurance and tax. In return you get a schedule for the day and your competitor numbers. Essentially, there are four circuits run during the day and you get three runs on each (looping to back of the queue of your group, so 3 in reasonbly quick succession). When not driving, you take your rotation to marshal or have free time.

After attaching the numbers (tape from tool kit deployed), next stop was scrutineering. You take your car to the scrutineer to get your card signed. Checks are really for the essentials like battery mounted securely. I'm not sure the tyres that I'd bought for the event were checked. I did need to make a second visit, as I'd not emptied my boot! At this point, I was wondering if I'd brought the wrong car.

Following the drivers briefing, it was time to walk the first test. See the yellow cone? This indicates that you must pass on the opposite side. This makes it easier to follow the course than say the one at North Weald Car Limits day. To an extent you can read the road in real-time, without having to memorise too much. Well that's the theory, more on this later.

Here is an example of a test - the fourth and largest.
