This is bad luck. Hope you come up with a solution that doesn't hurt too much.
Maybe Steve T can rebuild it for you once he's practiced on his?

Re: Engine gone bang
Gutted for you Lee
Just hope that you can get something sorted over the winter which will not break the bank, but still deliver the power you're after. Turbo sounds expensive though!?!
SBD do a welded OEM clutch basket - I'm guessing this is similar to what you had? https://www.sbdmotorsport.co.uk/CLT-BUSA-HD-BASKET-02-gen-2-hayabusa-oem-clutch-basket.html
Extreme Engines do a billet kit for less money than that.
I'd better check what mine looks like!

Re: Engine gone bang
finally got the engine rebuilt.
engine was ruined, crank, pistons, Rods, cylinder barrel, we found a crack in the head too.
finally the engine went on the dyno to run in yesterday and made 240. happy with that figure at 1440cc instead of 1498cc. we lost 5ft torque and 5-8 bhp under 8k revs but had more peak power than previous engine just.
next job is to get it in the car over winter and get it rolling roaded.
As for the damage it was caused by the welded basket breaking but RLM have warned me away from billet baskets as they are adamant they are weaker and have seen many failures from billet compared with standard welded. so taking their advice we added a new welded basket instead of a billet. I was told from over 100 engines built they have had 3 welded baskets go, as for billet they have seen double that in 25 engines!
quick question what have you guys used to cut the GRP body work? ive got hold of a simpson exhaust and i think my current exit holes need to be adjusted. what tool is best for making sound neat cuts in the GRP body work?

Re: Engine gone bang
Glad you're almost back on the road.
Gel coat always cracks just when you don't want it to. I generally drill holes close together well away from where I want the edge of the holes, then file between the holes, and finally enlarge the hole with more filing and finish with abrasive cloth/paper. It's slow but safe.
For small holes a Dremel with burs and stones can be useful too.

Re: Engine gone bang
I used a dremmel on some carbon fibre recently. You can get an extension arm that’s about 2ft long and flexible and makes cutting a lot easier and more accurate. Got the extension from eBay as already had the dremmel. Worked well.
Glad the engine is taking shape.

Re: Engine gone bang
engine has gone on fine, just need to top up fluids and fettle the bodywork to fit the new simpson exhaust.
going to take Duncans advise and drill holes then sand down.
should be up and running in a couple of weeks. then back to RLM for a map session.

Nice one Lee. Would be good to see the car out and about on a run or a track day or similar.

Well done, you've shown lots of determination to get back to this stage, many a lesser man would have given up! I'm hoping you have a great sprinting season this year and look forward to your reports.
If possible we should try and get some SKCC people out to support you
